The Department of Planning & Development offers a variety of services to preserve and enhance the quality of life offered to those who live and work in our community. The Department guides the physical development of Lebanon in a manner that promotes sustained growth and protects the historic character of the community. The Department is responsible for the City’s current land use and development issues, long range planning strategies, architectural preservation, and regulatory enforcement. It provides technical support to the City Council, the Planning Commission, and the Board of Zoning Appeals.

The land use and long range planning activities include managing the orderly development and growth of the community by overseeing the implementation of the Lebanon Comprehensive Plan. The staff administers planning and building permit procedures including development proposals, requests for zone changes, subdivision plats, variance requests, and architectural changes in the historic districts. Other integral duties include zoning administration, code enforcement, site inspections, assistance in capital improvement planning, demographic projections, and development capacity analysis.
