The Division of Electric currently is staffed by sixteen
personnel. The generating plant is capable of producing 32 Megawatts
of power. The City has maintained its own generating capability
through a combination of diesel fueled combustion engines and two
diesel fueled gas-turbine engines. This eliminates the City's dependence
on third party vendors. The generating system currently maintains
a 12,470 volt primary voltage, with a transmission voltage of 69,000
to our various substations.
The Division of Electric currently provides 169 million
kilowatt hours on average annual usage to the community. We provide
power to the entire city, residential and commercial alike for approximately
8.0 cents per kilowatt hour.
The Division of Electric started in 1970, implementing
underground utility service to the community, due to its greater
reliability, less maintenance, and reduction of outages. This provided
for a closed loop system that has significantly reduced loss of
service to our customers.
The Division goes even further to save costs to our
citizens by buying power from Cinergy (formerly Cincinnati Gas &
Electric) at a rate lower than we can produce it ourselves. This
utilizes the greater buying power of a larger community, while still
maintaining our own independence through local power generation
if needed.
The Lebanon Electric Division remains very innovative
in delivering service to our customers through the use of the latest
technology available. This not only provides service to our customers
at the lowest rates, but also holds down personnel costs, resulting
in a savings to the City through less employees.
The Division has been the recipient of many awards
in the past for their innovative approach to delivering service.
Awarded the AMP-OHIO 1995 INNOVATION AWARD for sponsoring a public
affairs program for the citizens through a local radio station.
The Division was awarded the AMP-OHIO 1990 INNOVATION AWARDS for
developing an in-house automated application to track volatile PCB
equipment. This aided greatly in complying with EPA regulations,
and safety for the workers and citizens alike.
A new building was completed in 1996, to house the
administrative section of the Division. This building is home to
the latest in computerized generation monitoring and planning. The
Division also installed a new SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data
Acquisition) system. This allows remote monitoring of all electric
distribution within the city. It provides a huge cost savings feature
by allowing more work to be performed without increasing personnel.
This new system has also become part of a state-of-the-art
Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) network. This will provide the Electric
Division the ability to do Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) and provide
a way to better control load management and monitoring of the entire
system. As deregulation approaches in the Electric Industry, the
City of Lebanon will now be better equipped to not only compete,
but to provide the highest level of service.
The Lebanon Division of Electric is committed to providing
the best service possible at the absolute lowest cost to our customers,
the citizens of Lebanon. We will continue to provide these same
high level services in the future.
